The design honours the site’s rich history while accommodating a contemporary lifestyle. The residence features a Dutch gambrel roof, a hallmark of the Shingle Style, which not only adds aesthetic appeal but also provides additional space for the upper floors, enhancing the home’s functionality.
The exterior of Bayberry Point is characterised by red cedar shingles, a material that pays homage to the coastal vernacular. This choice not only ensures durability against the elements but also contributes to the home’s timeless appearance. The roof’s form is particularly beneficial in creating spacious upper-floor bedrooms, a critical aspect for vacation homes aiming to host multiple guests. The design maintains a lower profile, making the house appear as a single-storey dwelling with dormers, thereby preserving the scale and character of the surrounding area.
Inside, the house is designed to maximise natural light and openness. The floor plan is open and unfettered, with continuous windows that invite the outdoors in, creating a sense of transparency and lightness. The living areas are oriented to take advantage of the spectacular views to the north and west, with the western view overlooking the ocean and the northern view looking out over protected open space and a tidal pond.
